ABOUT SARAH AMELIA WOODSON
Hi, I'm Sarah
From Aurora, For Aurora
My name is Sarah Woodson. I’m a proud Colorado native who has spent the majority of my life in Aurora — the city that shaped me, supported me, and taught me the meaning of community. Aurora is where I raised my three children, where I built my businesses, and where I learned firsthand what it means to struggle, to rebuild, and to rise.My journey hasn’t been easy. I know what it feels like to face homelessness and to navigate life without enough resources or support. I started raising a family at a young age, and later in life I experienced profound personal loss — losing my mother and my brother. Those experiences could have broken me, but instead they became my foundation.
I worked my way out of poverty through grit, determination, and an unwavering belief that my circumstances would not define my future. Those challenges shaped me into someone who is resilient, resourceful, and fearless — someone who does not back down when things get hard. Because of where I come from, my north star is clear: I fight for everyday working people and for those who are too often overlooked or left behind. I fight for the underdog. I believe that without real opportunity and real access, people cannot truly thrive — and that everyone deserves a fair shot to build stability, dignity, and a better future.
Those lessons taught me what real leadership looks like. Leadership means being a servant leader — leading with humility, respect, and accountability. It means creating a community and an atmosphere where all voices are heard and respected, regardless of political views, and where people feel welcomed, valued, and able to thrive in their own neighborhoods. Aurora gave me strength when I needed it most, and I carry that strength with me in everything I do. It’s why I lead fearlessly, why I fight for accountability, and why I am committed to building a brighter future for the heart of Aurora.
Before my work in cannabis policy, I owned a pro-se legal document preparation business where I supported families during some of the most difficult financial moments of their lives. That experience opened my eyes to the deep challenges everyday people face and the critical role economic stability plays in keeping families whole.
I didn’t grow up loving politics. Truthfully, I avoided it. But when I entered the cannabis industry — an industry built on complicated regulations — I was pushed into policy work out of necessity. Over time, I discovered something powerful: I didn’t fall in love with politics, I fell in love with policy. Real policy. Policy that changes lives, expands opportunity, improves safety, and creates pathways for people who have been overlooked for far too long.
That passion led me to advocacy and community leadership. Today, I serve as Vice Chair of the Aurora Business Advisory Board, working to strengthen local businesses and support economic growth. I also serve on Colorado’s Task Force for Drunk and Impaired Driving, where I fight for policies that keep our roads and families safe.
When I look across House District 42 — from the Aurora Mall to the CU Medical Campus, through Downtown Aurora and all the way to City Hall — I see the heart of Aurora. I see families who work hard every day, small business owners striving to grow, young people searching for opportunity, and neighbors from all backgrounds building a life together. Our diversity, our grit, and our shared hope are what make this district so special.
I’m running for the Colorado House because Aurora is my home. Its people are my purpose. I understand the struggles many families face because I’ve lived them. I’ve built businesses from the ground up. I’ve advocated for fairness and opportunity. And I believe deeply in leadership that is accountable, present, and rooted in community.
I am ready to work hard and fight for the people of HD42
